Ramadan – A Month of Change

By the Grace of Allah عز وجل another Ramadan is upon us. This month is the best month in the eyes of Allah عز وجل, and its days are the best days and its nights are the best nights. This is the month of Allah عز وجل, so what better time to start worshipping Him the way He deserves to be worshipped.
Currently the Muslim Ummah is in such a state where our lands have been occupied, our leaders have betrayed us, and the vast majority have fallen into a deep slumber. No longer is the concern for the Ummah our primary concern, rather we have become diverted from our true obligations. We see a situation in which the Shari’ah has been abandoned, the laws of Allah عز وجل are not being applied in totality and we see the despotic rulers in the Muslim lands opposing the Deen of Allah عز وجل by their speech and actions.
It is about time we made this Ramadan a month in which we change ourselves and our societies from the miserable state in which we are in, to one of honour and dignity. We have lived this deluded life of enjoyment and deception for too long and it is in this Ramadan we should wake up and make this change before it is too late and death overcomes us. We see many of our brothers and sisters who were with us last Ramadan, who wanted to make a change in their lives, yet they are not with us today.
Without a doubt, we are all heading for failure and humiliation in this life and the next if we do not make a positive change in our lives. Undoubtedly, Ramadan is the best time for this change, as Allah عز وجل has opened the doors of Mercy and he has caused the Shayateen to be chained up. We should try our utmost to do the following;
Change our hearts from longing for this Dunya to longing for the Akhirah. We need to remove any love we have for anyone or anything and replace that with love of Allah عز وجل, His Messenger and the believers. We should remove the diseases of the heart such as pride, arrogance, hypocrisy and envy etc. Our love should be for the truth and to see the truth established on this earth.
Change our speech and actions from evil deeds to the remembrance of Allah عز وجل. Without a doubt many will abstain from food and drink in this blessed month, yet they will not abstain from falsehood in their speech and actions. Without a doubt Allah عز وجل is not in need of this persons fasting.
Change our society from the evil of man-made law to a society which follows the laws of the Creator. We should call to Islam as an alternative and command the good and forbid the evil wherever we are.
Change our lands from being occupied by the Apostate rulers, to a situation where the Shari’ah is established in totality, where the Muslims can achieve security and peace.
Change our way of life from a life of disobedience and sin to one where we recognise our Lord and we fulfil all of His rights. We must reject all ideals of democracy, capitalism, secularism, nationalism and refer to Allah عز وجل and His Messenger in all matters, however big or small.
We have spent much of our life oblivious to the fact that we are heading in the wrong direction so strive tirelessly to make this change this Ramadan. Maybe through the Mercy of Al-Rahman we may find some success. May Allah عز وجل make this Ramadan successful and a month of change in the Ummah.
